Interstate 80 widening project begins

Workers with Iowa Plains Signing Inc. of Slater put out barricades over the lunch hour on Tuesday to close the Interstate 80 eastbound on-ramp.
A short time later, general contractor C.J. Moyna and Sons of Elkader shifted eastbound traffic across the median to run head-to-head with westbound traffic.
The effort to construct a third eastbound lane is expected to take until Nov. 15.
This is part of a $16.2 million project that also rebuilds Lower West Branch Road Bridge and constructs a third westbound lane over two years.
